I No Longer Resolve to Make No Resolutions

Happy (belated) New Year, gentle readers!

Hope everyone had a happy holiday season.  Mine was…interesting to say the least.  The Christmas Spoils were pretty good this year.  Even though Santa didn’t bring me a remote control Christmas pterodactyl or candy cane nunchucks (points for those of you who caught the reference), the jolly old elf more than made up for it with Season 1 of Community and really cool pen/highlighter/sticky note combos.  Those things are amazing! It’s a pen on one end, a highlighter on the other, and there’s a little sticky note dispenser on the cap! (For those of you who do not know me outside the virtual world, I have a tiny obsession with office supplies.  Especially really cool ones like The Pen).

I also received my annual season of Bones (Season 4 this year) and clothes.  Lots and lots of clothes (which is a good thing).  There’s also a new pair of headphones (I go through them like a normal person goes through–what do normal people go through really fast? Someone just suggested socks, I wasn’t aware people went through those quickly…).

Anyway.

There was also a stuffed bear from my mom and a package of sports tape.

Why the sports tape, you gentle readers ask?  Well, on Christmas Eve, I managed to break two of my fingers by rolling them up in a car window (don’t ask, it wasn’t technically my fault).  And it was on my right hand no less.  It made writing and typing a painful adventure for a few days.  And yes, for those of you who heard this story before and are wondering: yes, I did go to the doctor.  Apparently, there really was nothing else to do aside from the sports tape.

Christmas came and went, and it took the family that had come into town with it.

There was a small break between Christmas and New Years which was welcomed with wide, open arms.  Went to a small reunion of friends, got to hang out with the Incredible Xine who had returned from Peru (for further information on the Incredible Xine and her adventures in Peru, click here). She had a copy of The Matrix, so I was finally able to cross that off The List; which got me to thinking about everything else on The List that I still need to do (there’s quite a few things…).  Some of them I won’t be able to knock off for another couple of years, but others I can probably accomplish by the end of this year.

So, my New Year’s Resolution (thus breaking my customary Resolution of making no New Year’s Resolutions) is to do at least 5 things on The List by the end of 2011 and post about them, keeping you gentle readers informed of my amazing feats and adventures and making sure I stay motivated enough to actually stick with this Resolution (there’s a reason I generally don’t make them). If anyone has suggestions on how I can go about accomplishing some of them, please share!

So far, I’ve managed to cross two things off, for which I am very proud of myself.

There was a little bit of hesitancy over the first, since I’m not sure if it actually qualifies or not, but upon further examination of the event, I’m pretty sure I can cross “Learn to cook” (#6) off The List.

And, I also learned to ride a bike (#91); without it ending in any breaks, sprains, bruises or a concussion.  I am invincible!

On that note, gentle readers, I’m signing off.  Actually, I’m getting kicked out of the library, so I need to sign off—and it’s because the library’s closing! Not for any other reason, like eating too loudly (which, gentle readers, is a story for another time).

Ta!

Edit:  I didn’t get to post this before the librarian kicked me out, so here’s the Eating Too Loudly story for those of you who are interested:

Over the summer, I was taking an online course.  Since the dial-up connection at my house (yes, gentle readers, you read that right.  We have dial-up at my house.  We are stuck in the Digital Stone Age in the James house!) was too slow to handle the powerpoint/audio lecture combination, I would spend a good portion of my day at the library using their wifi.  As this usually coincided with lunchtime, I’d bring Subway or something with me.  Now, I’ve never had problems before with eating and working on stuff cos I sit in the very back of the building at a table away from everyone (boy, that makes me sound really anti-social, doesn’t it?) but there was this one day that some lady browsing the Fiction section nearby thought my sandwich wrapper was too loud, so she complained to the librarian.  The librarian, in turn, kicked me out and told me that I couldn’t bring food into the library anymore (which is complete bollocks cos I see people eating in there all the time!).

I took my stuff and sat out in the courtyard (in 105+ heat, by the way) and just worked out there while I ate.  When I tried to go back in to the building, the librarian told me I couldn’t until the next day (again, bollocks. Public library!)

So I just kept working in the courtyard until I was done with the day’s lesson.

And that, gentle readers, is the story of how I was kicked out of the library for eating too loudly.
